E-Mail: Fastmail
I have been a huge fan and customer of fastmail for years. It works everywhere and it respects standards letting me use whereever I am. On my daily linux laptop I use it on the web, thought it works in Thunderbird mail as well. On my iOS devices I use it with the built in default mail and calendar apps. That is why supporting standards is so important.
Cloud Storage: Dropbox
Dropbox is my main cloud storage solution as I like services that are just good at what they do and don’t try and do everything. If I do something in Google Docs I will use Google Drive, but most things live in Dropbox.
Cloud Storage: iCloud
I mostly use iCloud for just photos, but certain apps default to using iCloud storage.
Bookmarks: Raindrop
I use Raindrop to store all my bookmarks/favorites as it is easy to access everywhere
Notes: Apple Notes
I really love what Apple has done with Apple Notes and while it is not the best at cross platform the web version is good enough so it wins out.
Todo: Apple Reminders
I use this for the same reason I use Apple Notes, though the web version is pretty bad.
Music: Apple Music
I have tried multiple times to use Spotify since so many people I know use it. My head just can’t deal with that mess they call an app. It is almost as if Spotify wants you to listen to everything but music. Get podcasts and books off my screen or at least give me the option. Apple Music just does what I want, imagine that?
Podcasts: Overcast
Another app I have used for years and still love. I still will check out Pocketcasts
once in a while, but I always end up back with Overcast.
RSS: Inoreader
Way too many people think that RSS dies with Google Reader. I promise you it did not.
Other iOS Apps:
Drafts
This is probably both my favorite and most used app on my phone. As the app advertises, it’s where all text starts. I will write more on how I use it, but everyone should check out the website to see how much power this little app has.
Working Copy
: If you use Git you need this app. It is a lifesaver, and it is a big part of my mobile workflow to update this site. You can do all the normal Git stuff, but also mounts the repsitories so you can use it in the Files app.
Textastic
: My favorite text editor which also is part of my workflow to keep this site up to date on mobile.
Reeder Classic
: Another app I have used forever on iOS. This is my favorite RSS client which I connect to Inoreader. There is a new version of the app but I am sticking with classic.
