Aside from their predictable subject lines and verbiage, there’s also one other thing that these spam emails have in common: 99.9% come from GMail accounts. Once in a blue moon one will come from yahoo or aol or some other general mail service, but they are a rarity. Almost all of them are GMail.
On the other hand, if you are a person who relies on GMail as your primary email, this means that if you are trying to send me mail, you now run a much higher chance of being deposited into my spam folder. So much of the email I get from GMail accounts at this point is spam that an actual Gmail email, from an actual person, is statistically relatively rare.

I have beating this drum for years, but as the author rightly points out here people are going to be left with no choice soon. It’s always good to own your identify on the internet and this site is part of that, but in this case people should really consider doing it so your messages actually get read.
There are many ways to do this. I have a domain that I use Hover for and use Fastmail to host my e-mail. You can use google workspace if you like the way gmail works, but want your own domain. One good option that many people don’t know they have access to is actually from Apple if you use iOS and pay for any amount of storage. With the purchase of any iCloud storage you get custom domain e-mail and it’s super simple to setup. This means you don’t have to pay anything monthly for mail, you just need the domain.
