The Apple Podcasts App is Actually Not That Bad?
I have been an Overcast user for years, but recently it has gotten buggy while the design has felt stale. Before Overcast I used Pocket Casts, so have never really used Apple Podcasts. When Apple first launched their podcast app, I remember it being a bit of a mess, but I decided to give it a try again.
To my surprise, the Apple Podcasts app has improved significantly. It works for the way that I listen to podcasts. I suscribe to a lot of shows, and then decide to either listen to something or swipe it away as played. If you listen like I do, make sure to not have those shows set to auto-download, as it will fill up your phone quickly. I also like that it has a “Smart Speed” feature, which is similar to Overcast’s Smart Speed, allowing you to speed up playback without distorting the audio.
The interface is clean and straightforward, making it easy to navigate through my library and discover new content. Overall, while I still have a soft spot for Overcast, I have to admit that the Apple Podcasts app is a strong contender in the podcasting space. If you haven’t given it a try in a while, it might be worth revisiting.
You can see the podcasts I regularly listen to on the Podcasts page. I have organized them by category, so you can find something that interests you easily.
