Let’s go back to the year 2012 and Microsoft is running a new anti Google ad campaign called “Scroogled” where Microsoft infers that Google is spying on you to advertise. Google pushed back to rightly point out that they don’t scan e-mail etc to advertise to you. They do use other signals of course.

Now we move to today where AI is “changing everything”. Well according to Android Authority Google has updated their privacy policy to allow anything you connect to AI to be used to advertise to you. Well guess what people who pay for Google’s AI product will do by defeault? They will have Gmail, photos, drive, etc connected to make it useful.

You should go and read the article and the updated policy which is confusing and vague on purpose, but if nothing else this is a good reminder that you need to be aware of the services you use. I am not telling anyone to cut Google off or not use anything, but just go in with open eyes.

Personally I would still trust Google over the new AI only companies which is not saying that much.
