My first big arena show as a kid was Bruce Springsteen at MSG, and it took just one note for me to be hooked. So when I saw that Peter Carlin was writing a book all about the making of the Born to Run album I knew I would have to read it. Let’s just say the book did not disappoint. Carlin had great access to Springsteen and used it to get every detail to tell the fantastic story. Even if you are just a casual Bruce fan this is must read. ...
I was looking for something to read when I came across “The World That We Knew” by Alice Hoffman. The book tells a story of three girls running from the Nazis during World War 2. Normally I am not into the idea of mysticism, but the author successfully uses it as a vehicle to tell the story. It is well written and a solid read. Another good book in the historical fiction genre. ...
One word, meh! That is all I can really say about “Shadows in the Smoke” by Tony Broadbent. A post World War 2 crime novel based in London should be one that you don’t want to put down but I found it slow in way too many places. It’s fine if you just want something to read and have access to the book.
